Charity Work

Each year the executive committee of St. Agnes’ Choral Society select a charity of the year and undertake fundraising activities to raise funds for the chosen cause. Activities range from collections at the society’s annual production, Christmas carol singing, raffles, performance at events, sponsored events and bake-offs.

2020 - 2021: The Renal Unit, Belfast City Hospital (£4,000)

St Agnes' Choral Society are aiming to raise more funds for Belfast City Hospital Renal Unit this year. With the charity missing out on the fundraising efforts of St Agnes' during their annual show last year which was cancelled, the company hope to continue to raise funds through to the summer of 2021.

A member of St Agnes' since 1985, Paul Kelly (pictured) received new kidneys in 2013 and 2016 and receives dialysis treatment three times a week at the state of the art, custom-built facility at the City Hospital in south Belfast. Thanks to both the donors and the staff at the Renal Unit, Paul enjoys a renewed quality of life and has been able to maintain his interest and involvement in the extensive programme of events and performances from St Agnes' Choral Society every year.

In these uncertain times, all of us at St Agnes' Choral Society miss our weekly rehearsals and catch-ups, so we decided to connect again virtually to say a huge Thank You to all key and front line workers with "Thankful" while supporting a worthy cause. There are so many charities and organisations facing difficult and uncertain times with their usual streams of income heavily affected by the coronavirus pandemic so our membership voted on a charity to support. We are delighted that Macmillan Cancer Support is the benefiting charity.

Head of Fundraising for Macmillan in Northern Ireland and Scotland, Jan Forest, said "We are incredibly grateful to St Agnes' for choosing to raise money on our behalf during this uncertain time. People living with cancer need Macmillan now more than ever and we are experiencing a huge demand for our services. Thank you to the Society for helping us to make sure that no one faces cancer alone".

Many of our company members are key workers, whether that's across the NHS, care or education sectors, so we want to give back in the only way we know how- by singing. We raised nearly £2,500 for MacMillan through this campaign.
